What power supply is needed for Asus 1GB DDR3 video card?

Asus HD4670 HDMI 1GB DDR3

Is a 334W okay?

Will it even be alright on a 300W?|||I recommend getting at least a 500W power supply because it's not only your graphics card that needs power, but also your other computer components.|||What? The video card is WAY down the list of power drains! The biggest drain is the hard disk. Mechanical moving thigs are the biggest drain on the power supply, no question. The 2nd biggest drain is the CDROM drive when running. The 3rd the floppy drive when running. The 4th, the motherboard itself. The 5th, USB powered devices. The 6th, the fans that keep everything cool. MAYBE the video comes in here somewhere at #7, or maybe further down the list. You are needlessly worried.|||I'm not exactly sure how old your power supply is, as power supplies age, they do not produce as much power (in terms of wattage). Example: a 3 year old 400W might only produce 380W MAX.

A 334W might be able to power up your system, and your whole system. The 4670 only draws power from the PCI-E, as it does not use any 6-pin, 8-pin connectors - which mean it uses 75W at max.

Usually power supplies increase in increments of 50W, like 300W, 350W, 400W, etc. Because of this, I'm not sure if your power supply is from a durable brand, or a cheap one.

Put the video card (GPU) in, and see if it runs. It it does not, or your computer restarts, than you'll need to upgrade your power supply. There's a myth that if your power supply is too weak, your video card, and motherboard will explode- THIS IS NOT TRUE! The computer will only restart because it is not getting enough power. If it works than you will save yourself some money.....(even Tiger-Direct videos on youtube recommend that you try it out first before you buy a new power supply- one of the hosts ran a 4870 on a 380W!)

As you can see in this review, their TOTAL system power consumption with the 4670 only uses 218W http://www.legitreviews.com/article/792/… Legit Reviews is very useful, as they get cards, motherboard, etc directly from companies so they can test them out. (Read the whole review for the 4670 too, as you will/should gain more information.)

If you need a PSU upgrade, purchase one made by: Antec, Thermaltake, or Corsair. DO NOT buy cheap, poor quality ones.

A 350W/400W with 25amps or more on the 12 volt rail(s) will power up your system and 4670 with no problems at all.

**When looking at the power supply, looking at the amperage on the 12v rail(s) is one of the most important, as the wattage rating CAN be cheated (putting like 200W/40A on the motherboard rail- and you only need under 20A).
