Can a DDR3 video card be supported by a DDR2 motherboard?

My friend is upgrading his graphics card but he realized that his motherboard is DDR2 but the Nvidia GTX 260 is DDR3, does it matter?|||It does not mater, I have seen graphic cards use ddr4 and ddr5 and they have only recently made a ddr3 motherboard. And guess what, it still works. The graphic card has its own set of dedicated processor and ram which does not relay on the system's processor and ram.|||It doesn't matter. The video card memory is completely separate from the motherboard memory.
